What is the Neuro- Meridian Acupuncture Intensive Program?
The Neuro-Meridian Acupuncture Certification Program is a post-graduate advanced training modeled after the Professional Practice Certificate program offered at York University (Toronto Canada) founded by Dr Chiang.
The certification program covers how to treat pain and neurological dysfunction informed by a neuroanatomical understanding of the body while adhering to Classical Chinese Medicine theories to provide patient-centered care.
The Neuro- Meridian Acupuncture Intensive Program includes 78 contact hours of lecture, practical training, demonstration and clinical hands-on skills practicum.
It will be conveniently delivered in three modules. Each module is held over four consecutive days.
Like all the other workshops in the series, Module 2: Lower Extremity & Torso is taught independently of the other modules.
You do not have to have complete a module in order to do another module.
And of course you can apply this research and teaching into your clinic immediately.

What You Will Learn
- Interpret the neurovascular system as the Jing-Mai system to understand the anatomical basis of point functions.
- Gain proficiency in electro-modulating various branches of the sensory, motor, and autonomic nervous system.
- Perfect the practitioner’s skill in neuro-meridian plucking, obtaining the correct De Qi sensation unique to each point through the knowledge of neuro-anatomy and channel theory.

Who is Dr Poney Chiang
Dr Poney Chiang received a PhD in biomedical research from the Institute of Medical Science, University of Toronto, followed by a Master’s degree in Traditional Oriental Medicine from Pacific College of Oriental Medicine in New York.
He is an adjunct professor and founder of the Integrative Acupuncture Certificate Program for the Faculty of Health at York University (Toronto).
Dr Poney is also a professor at the American Neuro-Acupuncture Institute in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
He is a leading expert in peripheral neuro-anatomy of acupoints and their associated neuro-modulation needle techniques.
His current research interest involves an MRI-based study of the neuro-anatomy of acupoints on the scalp and their relationships to cortical functional regions.

Dr Richard Tan and the Balanced Method: The Origin
The Origin of Huai Dan 懷聃
As followers of Dr. Richard Tan know, he was an amazing man who poured his heart and soul into the creation of the world-renowned Balance Method. Born into a family dedicated to Chinese medicine, he was always interested in acupuncture and began his studies and treatment of patients in Taiwan before moving to the United States in 1977.
After an extensive education, he earned his doctoral degree in San Diego at an Oriental Medicine school and opened his practice in 1989 to great success.
However, Dr. Tan was not one to rest on his laurels. With each of the tens of thousands of patients he treated, he extracted something new that helped him improve his needle techniques or fine-tune and elevate his Balance Method system.
Dr. Tan’s Chinese given name was “Teh-Fu” 譚特夫 (“maverick man” in Chinese) but he styled himself as “Dan” 聃 (assuming Lao Tzu’s first name) and “Wu-Bian” 無邊 (“infinite”). In honor of his chosen name, The Academy of Acupuncture was also founded under the Chinese name “Huai Dan” 懷聃.
This name conveys the Academy’s mission to serve as the facilitator to carry on the great tradition of Dr. Tan and his systematic Balance Method on his honorable behalf.
