From Ancient Bronze to Modern Crisis: The Point Location Problem
What You Will Learn
In 1026 AD, Wang Weiyi cast life-sized bronze statues to standardise Acupuncture point locations. Nearly 1,000 years later, the WHO attempted the same goal with their 2008 standardisation.
Yet debates about accurate point locations persist.
The late Professor Lou Baiceng, a designated Living Treasure from Hangzhou, knew why. He discovered 7 different historical locations for GB 20 (Fengchi) – each targeting different anatomical structures. His mantra wasn't "location, location, location" but "location, angle, depth."
Prof Lou could send DeQi from LI 11 (Quchi) to the thumb, then index finger, then shoulder, then all three simultaneously – using only subtle changes in needle angle and depth with a single insertion.
The truth? Acupuncture points aren't just spots on the skin. They're targets deep within tissues.
